Hope Centre

Our Mission

Hope Center was founded in response to the profound call of Jesus in Matthew 25: “as you have done it to the last of these, you have done it to me.” Our mission is to reach out and care for young women in Latvia who are single, pregnant, and alone. These young women often overlooked and abandoned by society, face overwhelming challenges with little to no support from family, friends or other resources. Many have know only hardship and isolation, but at Hope Centre, they find love, care, and a chance at a brighter future.

Our Beginning

Hope Centre was founded in 2004 by the women of the Latvian Methodist church in Riga to meet the needs of girls who were abandoned by their families or in orphanages who could not accommodate a pregnant teen. Hope Centre offered open acceptance, a loving family environment, and safe shelter for both mother and baby.

Latvia, a small Eastern European nation on the Baltic Sea, endured over 50 years of Soviet Communist occupation, leaving behind a legacy of social and economic challenges. Today, with a negative population growth rate and high rates of abortion, young pregnant women are at high risk of humans trafficking. Hope Center offers a compassionate and safe alternative, empowering these women to choose life for their babies.

Our Vision

Hope Center’s vision is to nurture and mentor young mothers, guiding them toward becoming independent, self-sufficient adults who can create safe and loving homes for their children. We do this by providing the new experience of 24/7 mothering in a safe home environment with a group of young mothers sharing this journey together. On this fertile ground, they can embrace offerings of ongoing parenting, vocational, and life skills training. Our goal is to support these women for as long as needed, helping them to build a stable and fulfilling future.

Our Ministry

Shelter/Residential Service

Over the years, Hope Center’s ministry has expanded to serve young mothers from diverse backgrounds. Many of our residents today are young women with intellectual or developmental disabilities, often with histories of abuse and trauma. We provide targeted support through mentoring, skill development, and weekly counseling sessions. At Hope Center, these mothers find hope and the tools they need to lead productive, fulfilling lives while caring for their children.

Community-Based Services

In addition to our residential program, Hope Center offers a non-residential, community-based program supporting mothers and families who face profound struggles, including Ukrainian families displaced by the war. We understand the challenges these families face and are here to provide a beacon of hope. Our services include housing assistance, essential resources, food, and referrals for medical care. Offering emotional and spiritual support, we help these families find
comfort, strength, and a sense of belonging as they rebuild their lives in Latvia.

A Note from the Director

At Hope Center, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of pregnant young women and mothers by replacing feelings of desperation and fear with hope and unconditional love. Our mission is to empower these women to realize their full potential and give their children the best possible start in life. We stand by their side every step of the way, committed to ensuring a brighter, more hopeful future for both mother and child.
